Gareth Evans on the charge for Otago.
Otago players Gareth Evans and Tony Ensor have been
selected for a national sevens training camp in Mt Maunganui
next week.
All Black sevens coach Gordon Tietjens has chosen 22 players
for the camp in Bay of Plenty. They will prepare for the
Dubai and Port Elizabeth legs of the world series circuit.
Ensor and Evans have not played for the national sevens side
before but are coming off impressive seasons with Otago in
the ITM Cup.
Evans (21) had a top year for Otago, playing both No 8 and
blindside flanker. He has a sharp turn of pace which should
suit the shortened version of the game.
Ensor (21) came from nowhere to rack up a strong debut year
for Otago. He only made the squad through injury and
proceeded to score some great tries from fullback.
Next week's training squad of 22 will be cut down to 12 to
travel to Dubai and Port Elizabeth.
The Dubai tournament is on December 1-2, while the tournament
in Port Elizabeth is a week later.
