Scott Robertson has been confirmed as the new head coach for
the Canterbury ITM Cup team following Tabai Matson's move to
an assistant coaching role with the Crusaders.
Robertson worked as an assistant coach for Canterbury this
year, helping guide the team to an historic fifth consecutive
national provincial title.
The former Canterbury, Crusaders and All Black loose forward
also spent the previous four years as the assistant forwards
coach for Canterbury under Rob Penney's stewardship.
Robertson said he was excited about the new challenge: "It is
an honour to take on the head coach role, especially
following in the footsteps of such amazing coaches as Tabai
Matson and Rob Penney. I am already looking forward to the
2013 season and I will be giving this role everything in an
effort to see Canterbury's recent successes continue."
Robertson's playing career included playing in the Crusaders
sides for the Super Rugby triumphs of 1998-2000 and in 2002,
and being in the Canterbury sides that won the NPC first
division title in 1997 and 2001.
He played 23 tests for the All Blacks, scoring four tries.
As well as his coaching roles with the Canterbury side, he
has been the head coach for Sumner Rugby Club.
An appointment process for the assistant coach role vacated
by Robertson will commence shortly.
