It's there now, etched forever in rugby history - ''2013 OTAGO''.

The Ranfurly Shield was given an official winners' update yesterday, courtesy of 135-year-old Dunedin engraving business John Swan and Co Ltd.

Staff member Richard Manchester engraved Otago's name on to the shield and managing director Brian Swan did some repair work on the famous Log o' Wood in the short time he had it in his Moray Pl premises.

''It was looking a bit tatty so we tidied it up a bit.''

It wasn't the first time the business, one of Dunedin's oldest, had the famous trophy in its care, having carried out some refurbishment of the shield while it was on a national tour about ''20 to 30 years ago'', Mr Swan said.
