Following Otago's loss to Hawkes Bay in the ITM Cup Championship semifinal, ODT Online rugby contributor rates the performance of the players.

Peter Breen 5.5/10: Was pretty quiet, fielded a few kicks but didn't get too many chances and never really sparked anything.

Buxton Popoali'i 6.5/10: Covered well and made a couple of good kicks, didn't make too many breaks but was trying to make something happen.

Kieran Moffat 6/10: Pretty solid on defence and had a few nice touches on attack, ran hard as always.

Jayden Spence 6/10: Another who was solid on defence, while not getting too many chances with ball in hand although he did look good with what he got.

Matt Faddes 7.5/10: Had an excellent game, chased hard and made a lot of tackles off these. His pick-up to score an opportunistic try was classy and he even secured a breakdown turnover close to the line.

Hayden Parker 6.5/10: Kicked well and wasn't bad on defence. Showed good pace to beat Telusa Veianu back into the corner to save a try.

Fumiaki Tanaka 6.5/10: Generally passed well and was tidy enough, although he was beaten when covering prior to the final Hawkes Bay try.

Paul Grant 7/10: Made his tackles and ran strongly with ball in hand, worked hard and never stopped.

Lee Allan 6/10: Struggled with an injury, but did his best to get around the field. Made the fatal mistake of not passing on the occasion where he was penalised for a double movement.

Gareth Evans 7.5/10: Was everywhere on both attack and defence, worked hard and was fast at the front of the lineout when competing.

Tom Franklin 8/10: Another stand out performance, made a lot of tackles and some good runs in the open, while also throwing the offload which led to the second try.

Tom Donnelly 7/10: Was good while he was on, making a handful of strong tackles and working hard.

Scott Manson 5.5/10: Did well around the field, but was under pressure at scrum time and the act for which he was yellow carded was unnecessary, even if the card may have been a bit harsh.

Liam Coltman 7/10: Was industrious around the park, making tackles and getting to breakdowns quickly. Secured a breakdown penalty, though he did have a few lineout throws go astray.

Craig Millar 6/10: Another who was a real worker and never stopped, but was also part of a scrum which struggled.

Sam Anderson-Heather 7/10: Made an impact once he came on, making a couple of runs and throwing himself into everything.

Charlie O'Connell 6.5/10: Came on in the first half for Donnelly and did well, made a lot of tackles and was good in the lineout.

Ezra Taylor (No Rating): Went off injured almost straight after coming on in the 62nd minute.

TJ Ioane 7/10: Was a handful with ball in hand and went looking for tackles to make.

Josh Renton 7/10: Looked good, coming on with the score at 26-10 and making a difference. Sniped dangerously a few times and passed well.

Tei Walden 6.5/10: Pretty solid and had a couple of nice touches where he looked like creating something.
