A shell shocked University A was outplayed by a rampant Taieri team that won the club's third Dunedin premier rugby banner in four years.

Taieri played the game at pace on defence and attack and never let the students use their talented backline.

Taieri scored five tries to win the Speight's Shield 51-6 in a free flowing game at the Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Captain and No 8 Charlie O'Connell led by example and was always dangerous with the ball in hand.

The best of the Taieri backs was first five-eighth Hayden Parker who kicked 22 points with three conversions and six penalty goals.

The students led 6-3 after 10 minutes when first five-eighth Stephen Fenemor kicked his second penalty goal.

But that was the signal for Taieri to go on all out attack and score 48 unanswered points.

The game was virtually over when Taieri led 29-6 at halftime. They added three more tries and 22 points in the second spell.

Taieri 51 (Kori Rupene, Kieran Moffat, Michael Collins, Charlie O'Connell, James Lentjes tries; Hayden Parker 3 con, 6 pen, Kurt Schrader con), University A 6 (Stephen Fenemor 2 pen)., Halftime: Taieri 29-6.
