Three players will make their starting debuts for Otago as the side begins its ITM Cup campaign.

Lock Joe Latta, flanker James Lentjes and fullback Trent Renata will wear the blue and gold for the first time against North Harbour at Forsyth Barr Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

Two players on the Otago bench - prop Donald Brighouse and halfback Nick Ealey - could also make their first-class debuts.

Latta is originally from South Otago and is the son of former prop John Latta, who played for Otago in the 1980s.

Joe Latta played for the New Zealand schools side in 2010 and the New Zealand colts in 2012.

He returned to Otago last year but a hip injury ruined his season.

He has impressed with his lineout work and hard-driving play for Zingari-Richmond this season and his bulk and industry round the park will be a plus for Otago.

Lentjes transferred from Canterbury this season.

He has played well for his new club, Taieri, and with Hugh Blake in a knee brace and out of action for up to six weeks, Lentjes was the logical man to wear the No 7 jersey.

Trent Renata, the former Waikato utility back who transferred to Otago this year, will start at fullback.

Michael Collins and Tei Walden will team up in midfield, with Kieran Moffat recovering from a popped rib he picked up in the narrow win over Southland last week.

Latta will lock the scrum with Tom Franklin, while Liam Coltman will start at hooker.

The North Harbour team has a couple of interesting additions.

Former Otago and Highlanders lock Hayden Triggs will be in the second row.

Triggs has been in Japan but arrived back in New Zealand earlier this year to be immediately whistled into the Blues.

Matt McGahan will start at first five-eighth for North Harbour.

He played in the same position for New Zealand schools in 2010 in Dunedin in a win over Australia, before joining the Melbourne Storm.

After three years in league, McGahan decided to go back to the 15-man game and has played club rugby this year.

The son of former Kiwis international Hugh McGahan will be an interesting addition to a North Harbour side searching for more consistency this year.

Former Waratahs first five-eighth Daniel Halangahu is on the bench for North Harbour.
