Dinner with stars on offer

A chance to walk down memory lane and relive past glories is on offer this weekend before Otago does battle against Waikato.

The Otago Rugby Football Union's official charity, the Otago Medical Research Foundation, is holding a dinner on Sunday, starting at 12.15pm, with three Otago rugby identities.

Otago's most capped player, Richard Knight, who played 170 times for Otago from 1981 to 1992, will discuss his career, as will John Timu, who holds the joint season-try-scoring record for Otago with two other players, Paul Cooke and Brendon Laney.

Also talking will be former Otago and All Black assistant coach Tony Gilbert. Gilbert was the last man to coach Otago to a national provincial championship title in 1998.

The lunch at Forsyth Barr Stadium will precede the ITM Cup game between Otago and Waikato at the stadium, which is scheduled to kick off at 2.35pm.

Tickets are $60, with $20 of that going to the foundation.

The money raised for the foundation will go towards an additional summer research scholarship, which will be announced next month.
