Otago's golden era in junior touch continued with some fine performances at the South Island championships in Christchurch recently.

Nearly 200 players and support staff headed north for the tournament and returned with four South Island titles.

Among the stars again were the Otago under-17 and under-15 girls teams.

The under-17s won the South Island title for a fourth straight year, beating Southland 7-1 in the final, and the under-15s made it a threepeat.

Two boys teams, the under-13s and the under-11s, were also victorious.

There were six other Otago teams.

The under-13 girls, under-11 girls and under-11 mixed all finished second, and the under-17 boys, under-15 boys and under-13 mixed finished third.

Other competing provinces were Canterbury, Southland, Nelson and Marlborough.

Overall, Otago was one away from claiming top provincial honours from Canterbury.

Otago player Kiana Pelasio is heading to Sydney on January 12 to play for the New Zealand under-19 women's team in a three-match series against Australia under-19.
