The Blues have terminated the contract of Peter Saili and the loose forward will take up a contract in France later this month.

The New Zealand Rugby Union today announced it and the Blues had reached an agreement to end Saili's employment with immediate effect.

NZRU general manager of rugby Neil Sorensen said all three parties were satisfied with the outcome, which allowed Saili to head offshore to further pursue his career.

The 27-year-old played 71 games for the Blues since his debut in 2009 but was last year investigated for an alleged assault in June. Saili was alleged to have beaten a 13-year-old boy whom he caught burgling his home, an incident investigated by the police without charges being laid.

Saili proceeded to play for Auckland in the ITM Cup and was in October named in the Blues' squad for the 2015 Super Rugby season. But, following the split, Blues chief executive Michael Redman said the side were considering their options for a replacement player.

Details of Saili's contract severance were confidential to the parties involved.
