University A beat Pirates 35-21 but the win may have come at a big cost to the Highlanders with outside back Richard Buckman injuring his right
shoulder. He went off at halftime to have it iced.
Pirates dominated the forward exchanges but University was too slick out wide, scoring four tries in the opening half to lead 25-7. The set
pieces kept Pirates in the match and they rallied in the second spell, winning the half 14-10.
But the match of the round was out at Peter Johnstone Park. Taieri and
Harbour drew 31-31. In another thriller, Dunedin trailed Green Island 15-10 at halftime but managed to get up 30-27.
