Rugby: Chiefs lead Hurricanes at half-time

A try on the stroke of halftime has seen the Chiefs take a 13-10 lead to the break in their derby match against the Hurricanes in Wellington.

It was a well-worked movement, sparked by playmaker Damian McKenzie, who delivered a perfectly timed ball to Bryce Heem to make a break, before linking with centre Charlie Ngatai to touch down. The try was a timely one and will be encouraging to a Chiefs side who finds itself in the unenviable position of having already lost both starting locks to injury.

The Hurricanes got off to a fast start, threatening in the backs through the likes of Julian Savea, Nehe Milner-Skudder, Ma'a Nonu and James Marshall. Indeed it was off the back of a classy Marshall break that the sequence for the Hurricanes sole try was scored.

They were contained well for the rest of the half though, and the Chiefs continued to chip away, putting themselves in position to take the lead when they eventually scored.
