Otago skipper Angie Sisifa has been named in a new-look Black Ferns squad to tour Canada later this month.
Sisifa (24) is one of the 12 new caps named in the squad to play Canada, the United States and England.
Sisifa was one of five Otago players who were part of early-season training squads around the country.
The squads, which collectively numbered more than 100 players, have now been pruned to a squad of 26 for the three-test tour.
No 8 Sisifa, who is originally from Taranaki, was one of the stand-out players in the Otago Spirit side last year and narrowly missed selection for the World Cup squad.
With many players retiring after the World Cup last year, others injured and a few players concentrating on sevens, it is a rejigged Black Ferns team.
Coach Greg Smith said the side was an exciting blend of new faces and experienced players.
The squad is captained by incumbent Fiao'o Fa'amausili, with experience provided by the likes of halfback Emma Jensen and backs Honey Hireme and Selica Winiata.
Former Otago first five-eighth Victoria Subritzky-Nafatali, who has moved to Counties-Manukau this year, has been named in the team, while former Otago outside back Janna Vaughan, now of Manawatu, also makes the cut.
Only two players from the South Island have made the squad. Canterbury halfback Kendra Cocksedge is the other player.
With many of the top Black Ferns concentrating on sevens, the depth of women's rugby in New Zealand is being tested.
