Tomorrow night's final will be the third match between the Highlanders and Hurricanes this season. Sports reporter Robert van Royen looks back at three memorable clashes between the sides from the past.

Byron Kelleher scored a try on debut to help the Highlanders win a fourth straight game in front of 30,000 fans.

Lio Falaniko scored the team's other try, while Tony Brown added four penalties and two conversions.

Brendan Laney also banged over a drop goal.

The Highlanders produced an outstanding defensive performance in the win, which boosted the side to third on the ladder.

Hurricanes fullback Christian Cullen managed the visiting side's only try after Brown missed touch, but the Highlanders took a 12-8 lead to the sheds and went on to hold the Hurricanes scoreless in the second half.

Only a conversion separated the teams in a 10-try thriller in blustery conditions.

Both teams scored five tries, but Israel Dagg could only convert three of the Highlanders' tries.

While the second half was not exactly memorable, the first half was quite the opposite.

Both sides showed the will to attack from anywhere, which resulted in 50 first-half points.

There were four tries inside the first 13 minutes alone.

However, when the Highlanders lost No 10 Michael Hobbs to injury early in the second half, the team lost its shape.

Hurricanes midfielder Ma'a Nonu sealed the win when he crashed over inside the last 10 minutes of the match.

You get the feeling the Highlanders could win tomorrow's final if they defend like they did against the Hurricanes in Wellington last year.

Highlanders first five-eighth Hayden Parker banged over five penalties and a drop goal in the two-point win.

It looked like the Hurricanes had snatched victory when halfback TJ Perenara went over inside the last five minutes, but it was ruled out due to obstruction.

Perenara scored the only try of the game in the first half, when he put pressure on Aaron Smith trying to clear the ball from the back of a scrum.

He got a hand in the way, before pouncing on the loose ball to score a controversial try.

But some stout defence and a couple of missed kicks by Beauden Barrett gave the Highlanders the last laugh.
