Rugby: It comes down to this...

It is that time of the winter, where everything is on the line.

Taieri and University A will contest the premier club title at Forsyth Barr Stadium today in the first in a series of finals.

The women's competition will wrap up next weekend.

Pirates has already secured a berth in the final, having beaten University 26-18 in the major semifinal last weekend, while Alhambra-Union beat North Otago 25-5 in the minor semifinal.

University and Alhambra-Union will today play for the right to join Pirates in the final.

The match kicks off at the University Oval No 2 ground at 12.30pm.

The finalists for the Otago premier schools competition have already been decided, despite two rounds still remaining.

John McGlashan College and South Otago High School will play for the ODT Cup on August 8.

Both schools will then chase further glory in separate competitions.

John McGlashan has entered the open section of the Highlanders playoff series.

King's High School and Waitaki Boys' High School have also entered and will join the top two seeds, Otago Boys' High School and Southland Boys' High School.

The tournament winner will play the winner of the Crusaders secondary schools competition on August 29 for the South Island title and the right to contest the national finals.

South Otago High School will contest the co-ed section of the Highlanders tournament alongside Dunstan High School, St Kevin's College and Kavanagh College.

St Kevin's College won the South Island final last year but was beaten in the national semifinal by Hamilton's Cambridge High School.
