Rugby: New faces for Old Golds

Three imports are among 18 new players in the North Otago squad to play Southland in Gore tomorrow.

Dunedin club players Bryce Hosie and Lachie Moore, and Southlander Warwick Lynn, are among the new faces for the pre-season clash.

Hosie covered both first five-eighth and fullback for Southern, which set the pace for much of the Dunedin club season before faltering in the semifinals.

Moore is a robust midfield back who was a star for Clutha Valley in country rugby before moving to Dunedin to shore up the Zingari-Richmond backline.

A less familiar face is Lynn, a speedy fullback for the Woodlands club who is the younger brother of former Highlanders centre Kendrick Lynn.

Other newcomers include three fresh faces - the dynamic Old Boys duo of Filipo Veamatahau and Inoke Naufahu and Excelsior prop Meli Kolinisau - who performed well in club rugby in their first year out of school.

Old Boys locks Maene Mapusaga and Marika Tokalauvere will look to develop their club combination, but will have to battle to get past Taua Limuloa, who is back in the North Otago squad after a spell in Christchurch club rugby.

Experience is provided by front-rowers Ralph Darling and Palenapa Mafi and loose forwards Matt Duff and Soni Tongotongo.

Unavailable because of injury are Lemi Masoe (Old Boys), John Kelly (Excelsior), Wallace Milne (Kurow) and Rob Mafileo (Valley).
