Rugby: Highlanders launch two-year ticket deal

Fans can now buy a ticket to watch the Highlanders for two years and will also get the right to buy tickets to view all internationals at Forsyth Barr Stadium over the next two seasons.

The Highlanders are offering a ticket for two years for all Highlanders games at the covered venue for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

The $600 ticket also includes preferential rights to buy seats for the three international games to be played at the stadium in the next two years.

That covers the Welsh test next year, the Bledisloe Cup test in 2017 and the match between the British and Irish Lions and the Highlanders in 2017.

The $600 price also includes clothing and other deals such as getting to see pre-season games.

Highlanders general manager Roger Clark said all five New Zealand franchises were offering the deal.

He said the decision made by New Zealand Rugby to release a two-year international programme in July had helped the franchises offer the new tickets.

He said uptake had been great by current season ticket-holders with more than 25% of them taking up the two-year offer.

Overall, more than 90% of season ticket-holders had renewed.

''We have only been in the marketplace for a couple of weeks and that is encouraging to get such a good response. We are also getting some interest from new people,'' he said.

The preferential rights do not buy a ticket for the international games but give the seat-holder first rights to buy the seat for the game.

Clark said the price had not changed from last year.

The stadium would host six Highlanders games next year.

The seventh home game for the franchise is set to be played elsewhere, at a venue yet to be decided.
