Rugby: Highlanders-Racing 92 match to be shown on Sky

Sky Television has confirmed it will broadcast the match in Hong Kong between the Highlanders and Racing 92.

The match is to be played on February 6 and will involve the defending Super rugby champion taking on one of the leading French sides, which is riding high in both the French league and the European Challenge Cup.

When the match was announced late last year, after two months of negotiations, broadcast details had yet to be finalised.

But Sky Television confirmed yesterday the game will be broadcast starting at 9.55pm on February 6.

The date is the same day New Zealand plays Australia in a one-day cricket international in Wellington.

The game between the Highlanders and Racing 92 is for the Natixis Cup.

Racing 92 has previously played in Hong Kong but it will be the first venture to the former British colony for the Highlanders.

The side will take all 40 of its players, along with 10 management, and will spend just under a week in Hong Kong.

The Highlanders were originally set down to take on European champion Toulon but contractual issues meant the French and European club champion was unable to get clearance to play in the game.

But, if anything, Racing 92 will be a tougher opponent for the Highlanders.

The side, which has former All Blacks Dan Carter and Chris Masoe in its line-up, along with about another dozen internationals, has been performing well so far this season.

The team is well clear in its pool in the European Champions Cup and is sitting on top of the French Top 14 table.

The match will be played at the 11,800-seat Siu Sai Wan Stadium, in Hong Kong's eastern district.

After the match, the Highlanders will return home and play the Crusaders in Waimumu, outside Gore, on February 11.

The final pre-season game is against the Waratahs in Queenstown on February 19.
