You could call it the last chance saloon.

The Otago Rugby Supporters Club has found a new home and it could not be closer to the game.

The club, which used to have clubrooms on the terrace side at Carisbrook, is now going to be located in the bar right beside gate E at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

The Speight's bar is the one which was taken to London in 2007 as part of a marketing promotion by Speight's and has been sitting outside the stadium for at least a couple of years.

The club has a one-year lease on the new premises and Otago Rugby Supporters Club president Irene Todd said the move was make or break for the club.

"People have to support it and get behind it. If not, then we will look at closing [the club] down,'' she said.

The club used to have a membership of 900 in the 1990s when Otago rugby was on a high but slowly people have drifted away and membership now stood at about 50.

She said all supporters clubs, right throughout the country, were struggling to retain members.

"It's just a society thing, really. There are lots of reasons. People just drop away, night games, the price of everything. But we want to give it one last go.''

The club moved to the stadium more than a year after it opened and had some clubrooms in a room on floor 2A of the South Stand.

However, the Otago Rugby Football Union was wishing to expand into this area and the club had to look for new premises.

Todd, who was made a life member of the club at its annual meeting late last month, is happy with the new premises and hopes to attract patrons before and after games.

The bar could cater for a reasonable crowd and people did not have to be club members to come and enjoy the facilities.

It will be open this Saturday from 6pm for the first home game at the stadium this year for the Highlanders and every home game after that. It will also open after the game.
