Rugby: Pirates front but beaten comfortably (+ video)

A makeshift Pirates side fronted for its match with Taieri at Peter Johnstone Park and, while it was well beaten 68-19, it did manage to score three tries and contest the scrums up until the 55th minute.

Earlier in the week it looked as though the team might default but it was able to stitch a team together.

University A was missing several leading players but was still too good for Green Island, winning 44-24.

Speedy winger Gavin Stark grabbed a hat trick of tries and fellow winger Sam McLachlan bagged two tries.

Harbour dispatched Zingari-Richmond 66-24, while Kaikorai had a 27-25 win against the winless Alhambra-Union at the North Ground.

Dunedin eclipsed Southern 32-23 for the Ron Reggett Memorial at Bathgate Park.
