The game, which Waitaki won 29-27, was part of an inter-school sports day and doubled as an Otago premier schools match. King's missed a late penalty which would have given it the win.
While the home team lost the senior rugby it won the inter-school tournament 9-4. King's won both senior and junior football and basketball matches and also won the smallbore shooting, but split the debating contests. Waitaki cleaned up in the badminton and won the under-15 rugby match.
