The spotlight has been on the All Blacks this week, but there's another Kiwi rugby team that always captures the attention of the world.

The Nude Blacks host an unofficial curtain raiser before each All Blacks test held in Dunedin. Brave Kiwi souls get up close and personal in the freezing winter of the deep south during the nude rugby match.

"You're not truly a scarfie unless you've got your kit off to play for The Nude Blacks," the team explains on its official Facebook page.

The Nude Blacks are used to dominating their encounters, having lost only one of their 13 games in the south.

Organiser Ralph Davies says they have no trouble recruiting players for the team.

"The university is a good breeding ground for people wanting to get nude at the coldest time of the year."

But this year the clash won't go ahead when the All Blacks take on Wales in Dunedin because Davies is hoping to enjoy the game.

"Something unofficial may happen, but nothing has been arranged," he told Fairfax media.

The nude rugby team will play their next match in 2017, when the Lions take on the Highlanders, and the All Blacks play Australia at Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Former Nude Blacks have gone on to secure high-powered jobs as lawyers, teachers and doctors.
