Joseph humbled to be up for Matariki award

Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph will find out tomorrow night whether he has won an award at the inaugural Matariki awards, although he may be up in the air when the awards are handed out.

Joseph has been nominated in the sports category, along with injured All Black winger Nehe Milner-Skudder and Olympic kayaker Lisa Carrington.

The awards will honour Maori achievement and talent from the previous year.

Joseph said last week he was thrilled to be nominated but it was just a reflection of everyone on the Highlanders coaching team.

"That is incredibly humbling. I have been nominated for a couple of things over the past year and it is an acknowledgement for the whole team,'' he said.

"I am only one of half a dozen guys. All of the trophies go into the team cabinet. The head coach tends to get all the acknowledgment but it is all of the team which contribute. It is a reflection of all of us.''

Joseph won the best coach award at the Otago Sports award last month.

Joseph was heading to South Africa today with the Highlanders where the side will take on the Kings next Sunday morning (NZ time).

The awards will be handed out in Auckland tomorrow night.

University of Otago dean and associate professor Suzanne Pitama has been nominated in the education category.
