Kaikorai has kept its playoff prospects alive with a crucial 30-27 win against Taieri at Peter Johnstone Park today.

Taieri scored five tries to three but Kaikorai's superior goal kicking and dominant scrum proved the difference. The visitors scored two push over tries in what was an entertaining match despite the muddy conditions.

Southern needed to beat Harbour to remain in contention and a late try to fullback Josh Buchan helped secure a tense 23-20 victory at Bathgate Park.

Dunedin is the third side competing for the final two playoff spots and its 32-19 win against Green Island has given it a leg up.

University A thrashed Zingari-Richmond 61-0 to extend its lead at the top of the competition standings and Alhambra-Union smashed Pirates 41-8 to secure its third win this season.
