Wellingtonians can catch a glimpse of the All Blacks and the golden trophy when the team hits the streets of the capital for the victory parade today.

The parade will begin at parliament at 11.30am where the All Blacks will receive a brief welcome from the Speaker of the House.

The men in black are expected to leave Parliament at 12pm and travel along Lambton Quay, Willis St, Mercer St, and then stop at Civic Square at around 1pm, where they will be greeted by the mayor and thousands of fans.

Wellington mayor Celia Wade-Brown encouraged everyone to come along to celebrate.

"Wellingtonians and visitors will join together in congratulating the All Blacks on an outstanding World Cup campaign crowned with a magnificent final performance," she said.

"The central city will be bursting at the seams with proud All Blacks fans on Friday lunchtime."

Streets leading onto the parade route will be closed from 10am onwards, Wellington City Council said

Closures would affect traffic congestion and public transport around the central city, Wellington City Council events operations manager Simon Perry said.

"If you want to get across town, the best bet is to take the motorway or stick to the waterfront. These journeys are likely to take longer so people should leave extra time for travel," Mr Perry said.
