Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder has made a number of changes to his forward pack for their clash with the Highlanders in Dunedin on Saturday night.

Joe Moody will start at loosehead prop and Nepo Laulala at tighthead with All Blacks No 3 Owen Franks out due to an elbow infection.

Hooker Corey Flynn returns from a hamstring injury to take his place on the bench, giving the starting position to Ben Funnell.

If Flynn is summoned from the pine during the game he will become the most-capped Crusader, with 130 appearances, and will move ahead of former skipper Reuben Thorne.

Locks Tom Donnelly and Sam Whitelock make up the second row, while Luke Romano is the locking cover on the bench. Luke Whitelock will start at No 8 giving All Black Kieran Read a chance to play from the reserves.

The backs have a more familiar look. Tom Taylor comes in at second-five moving Ryan Crotty to centre and pushing Robbie Fruean to the bench.

The Crusaders are currently sixth on the table and have three round-robin matches left to play. All are against New Zealand conference counterparts.

Crusaders: Israel Dagg, Tom Marshall, Ryan Crotty, Tom Taylor, Zac Guildford, Dan Carter, Andy Ellis; Luke Whitelock, Matt Todd, George Whitelock, Sam Whitelock, Tom Donnelly, Nepo Laulala, Ben Funnell, Joe Moody. Reserves: Corey Flynn, Wyatt Crockett, Luke Romano, Kieran Read, Willi Heinz, Robbie Fruean, Adam Whitelock.
