Rugby: Hore to France?

Former All Black and Highlanders hooker Andrew Hore has been linked with a move to super-rich French club Toulon.

Hore (35) is believed to be in negotiations with the French club to play the remainder of the French season, which is reaching its climax.

Hore was playing cricket at a Golden Oldies tournament in Queenstown yesterday and could not be reached for comment.

No deal has been signed yet but Toulon is believed to want Hore in France as soon as possible.

The hooker retired last year from the All Blacks and the Highlanders after a career that included 83 caps for the All Blacks and more than 100 at Super rugby level.

He is living on the family farm in the Maniototo and was married earlier this year.

He hung up his boots after last year's end-of-year All Black tour but is believed to have fielded some offers from wealthy French clubs over the past couple of months.

He was linked with a move to Irish club Munster late last year but nothing came of that.

A strong scrummager, Hore could attract considerable cash for his services, as the power at the scrum is greatly valued in French club rugby.

Toulon is a very wealthy club and has a host of big names in its side.

Hore's former All Black team-mates Carl Hayman and Ali Williams are there, along with the likes of former Wallaby Matt Giteau, former Springbok lock Bakius Botha and English kicker Jonny Wilkinson.

The club has just announced the signing of James O'Connor and Leigh Halfpenny for next season.

Toulon sits at the top of the French Top 14 league and faces a crunch game against second-placed Clermont this weekend.

The side is still in the Heineken Cup and will play Leinster in the quarterfinals in Toulouse next month.
