David Heads and his mother Pauline Little will be in Wellington to support Patrick Osborne and the rest of the Highlanders as they take on the Hurricanes in the Super 15 final.

A Hurricanes fan, and family member of one of the North Island franchise's team members, has come to the aid of two Highlanders fans desperate to travel north to watch the Super 15 final.

Nicola Heads, of Waldronville, said she wanted to keep the name of the player and his sister under wraps, but was overjoyed to get cost-price tickets moments before shelling out almost $700 on the viagogo website.

Mrs Heads said her husband David Heads, and mother Pauline Little, were keen followers of both the Highlanders, and the Otago rugby team.

The pair had booked Cook Strait ferry tickets to get them to the final on Saturday, but missed out on buying tickets to the game.

Mrs Heads said her mother was just about to buy tickets on ticket re-selling site viagogo, which was offering them last night for as much as $623.

Two tickets would have cost almost $700 earlier yesterday, but just before the final decision was made, Mrs Heads got a message from the Hurricanes' fan on Facebook.

Mrs Heads had posted on broadcaster Tony Veitch's website, and got responses from people willing to sell her one ticket, but was uncomfortable for her mother to go and sit alone.

The message from the woman said she could ''look past you being a Highlanders fan.''

Mrs Heads' children played for Green Island, and a relative of the woman who offered the tickets had too.

''She said it was just meant to be.

''That was awesome, just awesome.''

Mrs Heads' mother and husband were set to drive to Wellington on Friday, though Mrs Heads said she was happy to stay home, despite being something of a Highlanders supporter.

''I am, but I don't really understand the game to be honest,'' Mrs Heads said.

''I'll take the kids and watch the game, but I'm not a die-hard fan like they are.''
