It is expected Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph will announce a move to coach Japan, at a press conference scheduled in Dunedin this afternoon.

Sources in Japan suggest he will announce the move, effective from the end of this year's Super rugby competition.

Speaking to the Otago Daily Times last night, the source said the Japan Rugby Football Union had repeatedly said it was ‘‘close to an agreement'' with Joseph (46) and he expected it today.

A former Japan international, Joseph was first linked with the role in December, as the union began a search for a replacement for Eddie Jones, now the head coach of England.

Joseph is in his sixth season with the Highlanders and has previously coached in Japan.

The announcement at Forsyth Barr Stadium was scheduled for 1.30pm.
