Hurricanes flanker Ardie Savea may have to wait a while longer to make his Super Rugby debut after being cited during Saturday's pre-season loss to the Chiefs.

Savea was cited for an alleged lifting tackle on Chiefs replacement halfback Augustine Pulu in the 78th minute of the match in Mangatainoka, won by the defending champion Chiefs 25-21.

The 19-year-old will face a judicial hearing tomorrow morning and, if the citing is upheld and a sanction is imposed, any ban will begin with the Hurricanes' first match against the Blues in Wellington on Saturday.

The younger brother of All Blacks wing Julian, Savea was a standout for Wellington during last season's ITM Cup and earned a two-year contract with the Hurricanes.
