Wanaka freestyle skier Jossi Wells won a big air bronze medal at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado, at the weekend, making him a three-time medallist at the competition.

It was the New Zealanders' day at the finals of the Freeski Open of New Zealand big mountain competition at The Remarkables on Saturday, with George Pengelly, Charlie Lyons and Sam Smoothy making a clean sweep of the men's podium and Janina Kuzma and Mitchey Greig coming second and third respectively.

Wanaka's hometown hero, Jossi Wells, held off a 12-strong field of international challengers to win the New Zealand Freeski Open slopestyle title at the Snow Park yesterday.
