Queenstown-based skier Laurie Taylor won the gold medal for
the fastest time at the junior interfield ski race series
final at Cardrona on Sunday.
The 12-year-old finished with a total time of 58.75sec and
was the only junior to complete two runs of the combi course
in under one minute. Laurie also won the overall K2 boys
class.
There were 65 entrants aged between 4 and 14 competing in
four categories. The format was a combi race, which included
a mix of disciplines using giant slalom and slalom gates, as
well as stubbies.
Pairs of skis were won by E1 skiers Alexandra Hull (8), of
Queenstown, and Leo Staufenberg (6), of Wanaka.
Richard McLaughlan (12), of Queenstown, won a three-week
training scholarship in Switzerland from World Ski
Connection.
Wanaka K2 skiers Chelsea Wallace (14) and Fraser Hannon (13)
also won Snowvision McKenzie training scholarships.
The Wakatipu Primary Schools race will be held today at
Coronet Peak from 10.30am. The ski and snowboard race will be
giant slalom, involving two runs down the Eighth Basin.
More than 100 pupils from Queenstown, Arrowtown, Glenorchy
and Wakatipu High Schools will compete for medals in years 4
to 8 categories and also the fastest time trophy.
