Golden Bibs have been
awarded to Sarah Jarvis and Ben Griffin following the final
Australia New Zealand Cup (ANC) series at Mt Hutt.
The golden bibs allow Jarvis and Griffin a top-31 start
position in all disciplines at Europa Cup, Nor-Am and World
Cup races during the forthcoming northern hemisphere season.
Only New Zealand and Australian competitors are eligible for
the bibs.
The bibs are awarded for the best overall performances by a
male and female from New Zealand or Australia in the four
disciplines of the Continental Cup, which is contested over a
six-week period in the two countries. The four disciplines
are slalom, giant slalom, super G and super combined.
Jarvis (23), of Whakapapa, was thrilled with the overall win,
during which he also received the yellow super combined bib.
"It gives me a good start in all disciplines, including a
better opportunity in GS and slalom, which are my specialty
events."
The highlight of Jarvis' ANC series was winning the giant
slalom race at Mt Hutt.
Griffin (22), of Ohakune, also won the yellow super combined
bib and said it was important to win the overall golden bib.
"I can now start in the World Cup events and do even better
in the Europa and Nor-Am races."
The ANC overall men's winner was Niklas Rainer (Sweden),
while Agnieszka Daniel Gasienica, of Poland, won the women's.
Angus Howden, of Wellington, who trains with the Cardrona
High Performance (HPC) Team, won the ANC men's yellow super G
bib. Auckland's Lucie Tait-Jamieson, who also trains with
HPC, was awarded the women's yellow super G and giant slalom
bibs, as the best placing New Zealander in both events during
the series.
The men's yellow slalom bib was won by Bryce Stevens, of
Australia, while the women's yellow slalom bib was won by
Emily Bamford, also from Australia.
The men's yellow giant slalom bib was won by Hugh Stevens, of
Australia.
