Snowsports: Korean, Canadian top field

Korea's Kim Eun-Ho and Canada's Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt won cross-country gold medals at Snow Farm yesterday.

Competing in the Australia New Zealand Continental Cup sprint, Eun-Ho completed two 800m laps in 4min 40sec to top the prologue result table.

He then went on to comfortably win his semifinal, before pipping fellow countryman Jun-Ho Hwang for gold. Canadian William Poffenroth finished third.

''In Korea, we train mainly on man-made snow,'' Eun-Ho said.

''It's great to be on natural snow here in New Zealand. It is very smooth and I glided well. The conditions were awesome,'' he said.

In the women's 800m race, Bouffard-Nesbitt clocked 2min 25sec in the prologue, before convincingly winning her semifinal.

Barbara Jezersek, of Slovenia, finished second and Katerina Paul, of Australia, was third.

New Zealand's sole entrant Andy Pohl, who recently represented New Zealand at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, completed the prologue in seventh place in 4min 50sec. He came fourth in the B final.
