Four New Zealand squash players are in the main draw of the
Hong Kong Open this week after Wellington's Martin Knight and
Waikato's Kylie Lindsay qualified for the event, joining
Joelle King and Jaclyn Hawkes.
Knight beat India's Hariderpal Sandhu 11-5, 11-9, 7-11, 4-11,
11-5 in 70 minutes in the final round of qualifying to make
the main draw but now has to face world No1 Nick Matthew from
England in the first round of the tournament.
In the women's draw Lindsay has won through qualifying by
defeating Hong Kong's Karman Siu 11-3, 11-7, 11-6 in 28
minutes and will face 13th seed Low Wee Wern of Malaysia in
the first round.
King is the ninth seed with a clash against qualifier Misaki
Kobayasji of Japan who is ranked 43rd while Hawkes is set to
play England's Tania Baileyin her first-round match.
Meanwhile Blenheim's Megan Craig won her first professional
title when she took out the Caboolture Open in Queensland
over the weekend. Craig, 18, defeated Tasmania's Maggy
Marshall 9-11, 11-4, 11-1, 11-8 in the final.
