New Zealand's Paige Hareb has made a sound start to the
opening ASP women's surfing tour event for 2011 by
progressing to the second round of the Roxy Pro on the Gold
Coast.
Hareb was runner-up her first round heat yesterday and has
drawn French rookie Pauline Ado when the competition resumes
at Snapper Rock off Coolangatta.
Insufficient surf forced organisers to declare a lay day this
morning, ideally the $US100,000 competition will resume
tomorrow.
Hareb scored 12.00 points in her heat; Peru's Jacquelina
Silva led the way with 13.37 while her compatriot Sofia
Mulanovich was third (10.86) and headed to a sudden death
repechage.
The Roxy Pro, scheduled to run to March 9, is the first of
eight stops on the 17-strong women's tour.
Meanwhile, New Zealand wildcard Sarah Mason was third in her
heat and will be fortunate to advance after drawing reigning
world champion Stephanie Gilmore (Australia) in her second
round eliminator.
