New Zealand's leading female surfer Paige Hareb and talented
junior Sarah Mason have quarterfinals spots in their sights
at the Legendary Pacific Coast Pro held event off Newcastle
in New South Wales.
Hareb and Mason were both runners-up in their heats as the
field was culled from 24 to 12.
Third-year ATP world tour veteran Hareb (11.40) trailed
Hawaiian Alana Blanchard (14.54) in a four-strong heat
including New Zealand's other entrant Wini Paul.
Mason (11.57) was also left in the wake of experienced tour
pro Coco Ho (18.17), another Hawaiian.
Hareb has drawn Australian Philippa Anderson and the in-form
Ho in her round of 12 heat while Mason is pitted against
four-time world champion Sally Fiztgibbons (Australia) and
Blanchard.
Two surfers from each of the four heats continue to the
quarters.
