Gisborne surfer Jay Quinn continued a series of excellent
results for New Zealand surfers in Scotland overnight.
Quinn finished second at the O'Neill Cold Water Classic event
held at Thurso East, Scotland, the first leg of which was
held at his home town of Gisborne in late March.
The result has lifted him 21 places to 75th on the
Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) world tour
ratings.
Quinn was defeated by first-time event winner Australian
Brent Dorrington in a low scoring final, 9.00 points to 7.66
points.
"I'm not happy with second place right now, but I'm also not
unhappy," said Quinn, who finished ninth at the event in
2010.
Fellow New Zealander Richard Christie came up against
Dorrington in the semifinal, the Australian scoring 18.50 out
of a possible 20 points to go through.
