Experienced New Zealand swimmers Melissa Ingram and Glenn Snyders both won silver medals on the second day of the FINA World Cup in Doha today.

Ingram was second in the women's 400m freestyle and Snyders was second in the 100m breaststroke. Both swimmers represent the North Shore club.

Ingram won her fourth silver from five swims in the opening two rounds of the World Cup, clocking 4:05.62. She finished behind current triple European champion Katinka Hosszu from Hungary, who edged away over the final 100m after the pair fought for the first 300m.

Her time was well under the qualifying mark for December's world short course championships, although slightly slower than her effort in the opening round at Dubai.

Snyders was on form to finish second behind South Africa's Olympic champion Cameron van der Burgh in the 100m breaststroke. The New Zealander was third at the halfway mark but impressed in the second half of the race to clock 58.13, which lowered his world championship qualifying effort from Dubai.

Australian-based Cameron Simpson (Templeton, Christchurch) also dipped under the world championship mark in the 50m freestyle, finishing seventh in 21.83s, which was slightly slower than his national record set in Dubai.

Taranaki swimmer Michael Jack produced a strong effort to finish sixth in the final of the 200m freestyle in 1:48.20, and while faster than in Dubai, he was two seconds outside the qualifying time for the world championships.

The FINA Arena World Cup moves to Europe for the third of eight meets to be staged in Stockholm next weekend.
