Otago diver Drew Schievink has been selected to represent New Zealand in two competitions in Australia later this year.

Schievink (14) was named in the national team to compete at the Australian elite junior diving competition in Sydney in July, and the national schools team to compete at the Pacific School Games in Adelaide in November.

His selection follows a strong performance at the national autumn championships in Auckland recently.

Schievink, one of five divers in the Otakou team, won the boys 14-15 years 3m dive, before finishing second in the 1m and platform.

He also won the 14-18 years 3m synchronised event with Nathan Brown (Auckland).

The John McGlashan College pupil recorded personal-bests in the platform (306.95) and the 3m (353.80), also helping him qualify for the national open and age-group championships in Auckland in August.

Rebecca Fisher (22) also qualified for the event after winning the women's open platform and the 1m dive. She also recorded personal-bests in the platform (176.30) and 1m (154.30).

Christine Wierda (16) won the platform, 3m and 1m events in the girls 12 years and over skills gold level, while Kate Bryant (12) won the 3m and 1m in the skills silver level.

Theo Smith (10), who was competing in his first national diving competition, won the 3m dive and finished second in the platform and 1m in the under-11 skills bronze level.
