An Alexandra vineyard won two top trophies at the 2009
Romeo Bragato Wine Awards, announced in Napier on Saturday.
Aravin vineyard was awarded the Richard Smart Trophy for
reserve champion wine and the Mike Wolter Memorial Trophy for
champion pinot noir - both for the Aravin pinot noir 2007.
The wine also won a gold medal.
Aravin owners Evan and Kay Moore, of Dunedin, planted the
10,000-vine Hill- view Rd vineyard in 1999. Black Quail
Estate at Bannockburn and Rockburn Wines Ltd at Cromwell won
gold medals for their 2008 pinot noir, while 2007 pinot noir
gold medals also went to Vinpro Ltd (Cromwell), and Olssen's
Garden Vineyard (Bannockburn).
Other medal winners from Central Otago included Mt Difficulty
Wines, Locharburn Wines Ltd, Bannock Brae Estate, Quartz Reef
Winery, Big Sky Wines, Grasshopper Rock, Aurum Wines, William
Hill, Wooing Tree Vineyard, Hinton Estate, Three Miners
Vineyard, Lowburn Ferry, Pisa Range Estate, Leaning Rock,
Akarua, and Northburn Station.
