The historic Kingston Flyer is now on the market in a
receivership sale, with tenders closing on December 11.
Assets of Kingston Acquisitions Ltd are being taken to tender
by real estate company Bayleys Queenstown on behalf of
Prudential Mortgage Nominees Ltd.
The company's assets include two steam locomotives towing
seven fully refurbished carriages, track, station, associated
buildings and nearly 80ha of development land around
Kingston, 35km south of Queenstown.
Since the early 1980s, the train has operated as a summer
tourist service on 14km of track between Fairlight and
Kingston.
Bayleys Queenstown sales consultant Barry Robertson said the
land for sale was destined for a comprehensive commercial and
residential development.
"There are 13 parcels of land up for tender, with some of the
titles linked to the steam train, including a station and
tavern, storage shed, and the railway corridor to Fairlight
and Fairlight Station.
"Other titles include residential sections and development
blocks, one of which has consent for a 15-lot subdivision,"
he said.
The Flyer's two locomotives entered service in 1925 and 1927
and were made in Christchurch and Dunedin.
