The Katiki Point Penguin Charitable Trust won the supreme
award at the TrustPower Waihemo Community Awards, presented
in Palmerston last night.
Katiki Point provided a safe haven for more than 70% of North
Otago's yellow-eyed penguins, attracting 20,000-plus visitors
a year, TrustPower community relations representative Melanie
Gray said.
Other winners announced last night were. -Heritage and
Environment: Waihemo Heritage Trust.
Health and Wellbeing: Good Samaritans; East Otago Relief
Network Trust (runners-up).
Arts and Culture: East Otago Woodturners; Puketapu Radio
(runners-up).
Sport and Leisure: Waikouaiti District Pony Club.
Educational and Child/Youth Development: Hampden Skate Park
Society; Palmerston Presbyterian Church (runners-up).
