Angus wins at Beef Expo

North Otago stud Angus breeders Neil and Rose Sanderson are delighted with their success at the Meat and Wool New Zealand Beef Expo in Feilding this week.

Their bull Fossil Creek Warragul was judged champion Angus and the couple received the Seamus Borthwick Trophy for most points across the classes in the Angus breed.

Fossil Creek Warragul was then placed reserve champion to a Hereford bull from Charlie and Margaret Lee's Leelands stud at Otane, Hawkes Bay, which won champion of champions.

The judges were John and Marion Tilson, Scottish Angus breeders who have judged all over the world.

Yesterday, Mrs Sanderson said Mr and Mrs Tilson described it as "really a flip of a coin" between the Angus and Hereford.

Fossil Creek Warragul was sold for $14,500 to the Otoka and Waiwhero studs in Hawkes Bay.

The Sandersons sold another bull for $9200.

In 2008, Mr and Mrs Sanderson won the expo champion of champions with Fossil Creek Update.
