Young car enthusiasts will have the opportunity to show off
their "pride and joy" at a Mags and Motors event in Oamaru on
Saturday.
Organised by the Waitaki District Youth Council, it will be
held in the Eden St car parks from 5pm until about 10pm.
Young people often got bad press and young people in cars got
worse press. However, many were well behaved and just loved
their cars, Waitaki District Council community development
officer Louise Day said.
It was an opportunity for them to show off their vehicles.
"They don't have to be souped up or styled up. If you love
your car, bring it along," Ms Day said.
A mechanic and automotive electrician will offer advice and
an air-brushing tutor and graffiti artist will show their
work, along with other displays.
A skills driving course will be set up by driving instructor
Margaret Burrell, with a $500 petrol voucher for the most
precise driver. There will also be a $500 petrol voucher for
the owner of the best local car as judged by their peers.
