The long arm of the law has finally caught up with an Oamaru man on a 21-year-old arrest warrant.
Oamaru police have confirmed a 48-year-old man was arrested on Friday on a warrant issued in the Auckland District Court in May 1988, stemming from charges of reckless driving causing injury and driving under the influence.
The man was being spoken to by police in relation to an unrelated matter and it was "standard procedure" to do a check, which was when the warrant was discovered, police said.
It was understood the original warrant was the result of a crash in Auckland.
