The potential for residential development in Waimate has
received a boost with the completion of the Timaru Rd sewer
extension and the start of the High St sewer extension.
Waimate Mayor John Coles said the project was indicative of
the many positive signs of growth in the area.
"[The extensions offer] an improved standard of living for
people who already reside in the High St vicinity, with the
opportunity to do away with septic tanks on their existing
properties.
"But I also believe it will increase our potential to attract
new residents who might be considering moving to Waimate in
light of other projects due to come on stream such as the new
dairy factory and the proposed north bank tunnel [scheme]."
