TV programme stirs memories

Oamaru police say they are pleased with the episode of Sensing Murder on TV2 on Thursday night, as it has got people talking again about the death of Brendan Percy.

Mr Percy's body was found by trampers in January, 2004, in remote tussock country near Mt Dasher in the Kakanui Mountains.

A postmortem found he died of hypothermia but that left unanswered questions for his family, who sought the help of the Sensing Murder programme.

Both police and the family hoped the publicity would encourage someone to come forward with new information.

When contacted yesterday, Detective Warren Duncan said some information had been received.

It was a "gathering exercise" at this stage to look at what might be rumour and what might have some validity and need following up.

False rumours were circulating around the town about what the police had done, including that an arrest had been made, but no-one had been arrested, Det Duncan said.
