Omarama businessman Craig Dawson is disappointed at a
decision to discontinue Saturday mail delivery to PostCentre
agencies in the upper Waitaki Valley from May.
As well as being another reduction in service to the area, it
could affect businesses which relied on the Saturday morning
service, Mr Dawson, who is also chairman of the Ahuriri
Community Board, said.
When contacted, a New Zealand Post Group spokesman said mail
was carried by New Zealand Post's contractor, CourierPost,
which had scheduled deliveries to the New Zealand Post
PostCentre agencies at Kurow, Omarama and Otematata from
Monday to Friday.
The Oamaru-Omarama Saturday service had become commercially
unsustainable and a decision had been made to discontinue it
from May 1.
