Calling all Toyota MR2 owners - Waimate wants you to gather
in the town next weekend, to beat the North Island.
The aim is to get as many "Mister Two" sports cars as
possible in one place in the South Island and another in
North Island, to see which island can muster the most of that
model.
The last muster, held two years ago, was won by the South
Island.
This year's South Island event, next Saturday, has been
called by Ruth and Bill McEwen, of Waimate.
The two-seater, mid-engined cars will gather in Seddon Sq
from 10am.
Mrs McEwen said the previous South Island muster had 30 cars,
and they hoped to do better this year, as well as beating the
North Island.
"At noon, we ring the North Island to find out how many they
had."
MR2 owners do not have to be members of the MR2 Owners Club
of New Zealand - the event is open to anyone who owns one of
the cars.
The MR2 was launched in 1984, after being introduced as a
concept car at motor shows.
Mr and Mrs McEwen's MR2 is a 2001 MR-SS Spyder, produced the
year before the model was discontinued.
