35 submissions on ORC annual plan

With one working day to go before draft annual plan submissions close, the Otago Regional Council has only received about 35.

Last year, more than 220 submissions were made to the plan.

Regional council corporate services director Wayne Scott said more than 400 copies of the draft annual plan had been sent out and it had been extensively advertised.

He anticipated a lot more submissions would arrive today.

"We usually receive a rush of submissions coming in in the last few days."

Submissions on the 2010-11 draft plan opened in March, with key topics including increased bus services for Queenstown, continuation of Leith-Lindsay flood protection works, Shotover Delta flood protect and discussions on an operational merger between Port Otago and the Port of Lyttelton.

Hearings were expected to be held around the region during the week starting May 10.
